Field Note 15 of 22
IIT Hyderabad campus
“A machine capable of building the future, sitting mostly idle.”
Inside BVR SCIENT — the innovation and entrepreneurship school on the IIT Hyderabad campus — sits a 3D printer, the kind of capability that could meaningfully serve manufacturers and industry across the wider Hyderabad ecosystem.
In conversation with the people who work around it, one detail stood out: it isn't being used anywhere near its potential. The capability exists. The industrial demand it could serve exists, somewhere nearby. The two simply haven't found a way to meet.
It isn't a story about a lack of investment — the machine is there, funded, real. It's a story about the absence of whatever it takes to connect a built capability to the people who could actually use it.
A foundation, sitting quietly, waiting for a function to attach itself to.
